This all too human comedy about trying to do the right thing is by Oscar nominated author and playwright Ronald Harwood. Equally Divided begins shortly after the funeral of Edith and Renata’s mother. Edith likes to think she is a good person. She was a dutiful daughter to her demanding, bedridden mother, while her rich, selfish, younger sister Renata got all the attention. When the will is read old childhood rivalries re-emerge. Will their eccentric mother’s tempting collection of antiques prove a temptation too far?

Pantomime is a theatrical entertainment, mainly for children, that involves music, topical jokes, slapstick comedy, cross-dressing and is based on a fairy tale or nursery story, usually produced around Christmas.

Characters often break the “fourth wall” through interaction with the audience and audience participation. They tend to be stereotypes and none of them take themselves seriously!

SYNOPSIS OF Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack Trot and his mother, Dame Trot live in a village called Merrydale. Jack is in love with King Bertram’s daughter, the lovely Princess Demelza. The village is being terrorised by the Giant who lives Up-In-The Clouds. He demands increased taxes and the hand of the Princess in marriage. In order to pay the Giant, Dame Trot and Jack are forced to sell their cow Daisy. However, Jack is tricked by Slimeball, the Giant’s henchman, who pays him in beans instead of cash; and who abducts the Princess and takes her to the Giant. Jack throws the beans away in disgust, but magically they grow into a huge beanstalk allowing him to climb up into the clouds to rescue the Princess. Will it end happily ever after?

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Speaking/ singing roles – please download the relevant audition pieces and prepare a song of your choice. (Non-singing roles require script only)

All other roles should prepare a one-minute song to demonstrate singing ability

Homemade Sausage Rolls: Five siblings come from their mother’s wake. While discussing who they think was their mother’s favourite, the conversation brings back memories of their childhood and time spent with their mother.

The Two of Us: Stephen & Jo are preparing for a dinner party. Their friends are about to arrive when things go a little awry and Stephen & Jo find themselves in an embarrassing situation.

Oh! What a Tangled Web: On an impulse, Jan makes up a story. Under pressure she blurts out that there has been a death in the family. Actually, the only thing wrong is that the family cat is missing. In any case, people start arriving to express their concern and sympathy. The parents think they’re referring to the cat and the hilarious complications just continue to multiply.

Imagine a world in which the air we breathe is just another commodity like food and fuel. Something that can be bought and sold according to market forces. Designer air proves to be the marketing phenomenon of the decade, but as demand outstrips supply, the world is starting to gasp, and only the biggest suckers survive.

Ben Elton’s modern adaptation on his 1991 play is a darkly comic satire on big business, the media and product exploitation.

Philip (lead) Early to mid-30s, studious in appearance with an outward façade of bravado and gusto. Nothing has ever been handed to him and has pulled himself into the Executive Boardroom of Lockheart Resources with hard work and knock-backs. Will go to any lengths to please the ‘Chief’ with his loquacious nature and over exuberant body language. A conflicted soul who believes that mining is a force for good, but still has an innate belief in the good of people, and the need to reciprocate;

Peggy Late 20s to early 30s. Has an understated beauty that she is completely unaware of. Has the appearance and demeanour of a librarian and seems very bookish in attitude as a result. Suffers from allergies and respiratory difficulties, but carries this burden with decorum and an unflinching attitude. Humanitarian by nature and always puts herself last in favour of her fellow humans.

Sandy Late 20’s and always slightly younger than Philip, although the more senior in Lockheart Resources. Slick, good looking, great speaker with lots of charismatic charm. Has the depth of a worm’s grave and the intellect to match. Comes from a privileged background and was parachuted in to Lockheart Resources by his rich family and done as a favour to them by the ‘Chief’.

Chief 40’s to 50’s larger than life, arrogant, entitled and powerful. Can dominate a room simply with his presence alone. Born in to money which has engendered an unfathomable boredom with everything in life except turning a profit, which he sees as his right and the only real challenge worth pursuing. Does not suffer fools gladly, so believes he has assembled the best team possible around him.

Kirsten Early to mid-30s, high flying executive woman who is ultra-competitive in everything she turns her attention to. Has fought her entire career to overcome the bias against successful women in the workplace and despises misogyny of any kind. In contradiction, she is still not ashamed to utilise her gender to achieve her ends. Views men as weak and feeble, who can be easily manipulated to her own ends. Has to be top-dog in all things.

This is a short play about 5 siblings who have come from their mother’s wake. They have a discussion about who they think, out of all them, was their mother’s favourite! The conversation brings back memories of their childhood and time spent with their mother.

The characters are:

Angie, Maci, Tina, Winifred and Barry

Age range 40 – 60 (stage ages)

The action takes place in the dining room of Stephen and Jo’s house with the table laid for six. It is evening and Stephen and Jo are preparing for a dinner party with friends. The friends are about to arrive when things go a little awry and Stephen and Jo find themselves in an embarrassing situation.

Two actors play the 5 characters:

Male Actor:

Stephen – Married to Jo (25 to 40 years)
Barney – Friend of Stephen and Jo (similar age)

Female Actor:

Jo – Married to Stephen
Bee – Friend of Stephen and Jo
Alex – Boyfriend of Bee (younger than the others – hippie)

Heathers – The Musical is based on the cult classic 1980’s movie of the same name starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. It is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into to the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously seductive new kid, JD. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobocized butt… but JD has another plan for that bullet.

Auditions will be held on August 22nd and 23rd with Monday 24th reserved for callbacks. Please book early to secure your preferred time. Auditions will be held at Wanneroo Secondary College.

An information afternoon will be held at the Limelight Theatre on Sunday August 9th at 1pm. You can meet the creative team, learn the audition dance, and ask any questions you have about the show.

Ages stated are ‘stage age’ only; we anticipate that people older than teenagers will be cast in teenage roles, and we encourage you to audition even if you are not the age of the character. We are looking for a diverse cast, and encourage people of all ages, backgrounds and experience to audition for the role of their choice. Due to the style of the show and its vocal demands, auditionees must be 18 years or older at the time of the audition.

Veronica Sawyer:

17. She burns to be both cool and kind, but doesn’t yet know how to be both at the same time. Voice: high belting required, up to A

JD:

17. He is darkly charismatic, compelling, attractive, charming…on the outside. Voice: Strong belt to at least an A♭.

Heather Chandler:

17. The orginal Mean Girl. Mezzo, strong belt to F.

Heather McNamara:

17. Beautiful, innocent, can be mean on command if ordered. Soprano, strong belt to D♭.

Heather Duke:

17. Whipping-girl of the 3 Heathers. Alto, strong belt to C.

Martha Dunnstock:

17. Beautiful soul, most bullied girl at school. Strong belt to E.

Ram Sweeney:

17. Insensitive to the feelings of others, ruled by appetites. Strong baritone, belt to G.

Kurt Kelly:

17. Rude, entitled, cocky. Tenor, strong belt to A♭.

Ram’s Dad:

40-45. Former football player turned suburban Dad. Baritone/Tenor – strong belt to A♭.

Mrs Fleming:

45-50. Ageing, hippie teacher. Strong belt to C.

Kurt’s Dad:

30-45. Straight-laced, very conservative. Baritone/Tenor – strong belt to G.

Plus a series of featured ensemble soloists and general chorus parts, for all ages.

Peter Pan will now run from 26th November to 12th December. As this is a family friendly event, evening performances will start at 7:30pm.

Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up, by Scottish playwright JM Barrie was first produced in 1904. This is the classic story of the Darling children and their adventures with Peter Pan, adapted by Kathleen Del Casale, an up and coming playwright and director. The play begins in the nursery of the Darling household in London, where Wendy, John and Michael are going to bed when they are surprised by the arrival of Peter Pan and the fairy, Tinkerbell. Peter has come to retrieve his shadow, which he had previously lost there.
