The multi award winning musical 42nd Street makes a triumphant return to Perth with a brand new production at the Limelight Theatre. Directed and choreographed by original Australian production cast member Drew Anthony, this classic “backstage musical” features one of the best musical theatre scores of all time including “42nd Street”, “We’re in the Money” and “Lullaby of Broadway”.

42nd Street tells the Depression-era story of young Peggy Sawyer who unexpectedly joins the cast of Broadway’s newest show Pretty Lady, only to find herself replacing the leading lady who breaks her ankle during rehearsals. Desperate for the show to be a success Pretty Lady’s director utters the iconic line “You’re going out there a youngster, but you’ve gotta come back a star!”, and that’s just what she does.

First performed in London’s West End in 1983 when it starred Judi Dench and Michael Williams. This is a true story, the plot centres on Bob and Barbara Jackson and their teenage daughter Julie. The Jackson’s are friendly with their neighbours, Peter and Helen Kroger, until that couple are arrested and charged with espionage in 1961. The action underlines the events, the lies and the betrayal that take place in the months leading up to this eventual arrest.

Six unemployed, working class men decide to bare all in order to make some desperately needed money. Based on the 1997 film of the same name, this is an hilarious story of men confronting their masculinity, dignity, self worth and insecurities.

This all too human comedy about trying to do the right thing is by Oscar nominated author and playwright Ronald Harwood who penned The Dresser and Quartet. Equally Divided begins shortly after the funeral of Edith and Renata’s mother. Edith, impecunious and practical, likes to think she is a good person. She was a dutiful daughter to her demanding, bedridden mother, while rich, selfish, younger sister Renata got all the attention – and all the husbands! Edith looked after “Ma” for ages; Renata barely lifted a painted fingernail to help the old dear. When the will is read, old childhood rivalries re-emerge. But something tells Edith that Renata – glamorous, impossible Renata – will always come out on top. Will Edith find that honesty, like beauty, is only skin deep? Will their eccentric mother’s tempting collection of antiques, littered around her old, converted railway carriage on a beach in southern England, prove a temptation too far?

Kenneth and Hilary have been married for nearly twenty years, when Kenneth finds himself in the arms of Laura. His little fling quickly becomes out of hand and his world and life become a spiral of lies and deceit.  When Hilary invites Kenneth and Laura over for dinner, he accepts…unaware of the delicacies Hilary has on the menu.
