President’s Spot – August

Hello members & friends

The Limelight theatre is very busy bouncing from one production to the next this August! No sooner had “Fairy Tale” left the premises than Playlovers bumped in with “Side by Side by Sondheim”. This was our first collaboration with Playlovers and audiences were very impressed with the stand-ard of production, presentation and singers – a very professional job well done. And now, hot on the heels of their bump out, enter Wan-neroo Secondary College with their production of “Shrek” – the junior version. This will be a very short season and you will need to con-tact the school for bookings. When they vacate, our first ever Shake-spearian play, “Romeo and Juliet” will be stage at the end of Septem-ber and into October. The bookings for this production are already under way and proving very popular with both our audiences and local high schools.
We are really pleased to be able to open up our theatre to other groups and schools, making it truly a community theatre. It’s not al-ways easy to program for these extra events, but it has certainly proved to be a popular addition to our year’s calendar.
Currently our reading committee are hard at work reading a varie-ty of submissions for 2019 and we hope to be able to announce the program towards the end of September. So if you haven’t submitted yet and wish to do so, please do not delay!
Finally on a personal note, thank you members and friends for your kind wishes and sympathy on the passing of my mother. She was 96 and lived a full an interesting life and she will certainly be missed by those who knew her. RIP
Shelley

Romeo and Juliet 27th September – 13th October 2018

Romeo and Juliet was first performed in 1594 and now 424 years later this timeless classic is still one of the most popular and performed works of Shakespeare.  Romeo and Juliet has been adapted numerous times for stage, film, musical and opera venues and now Limelight Theatre (our first Shakespeare ever!).

Two star crossed lovers come together in spite of the constant opposition of their warring families.  Street brawls, a masquerade, hope and the best laid schemes of the well intentioned will lead to an inevitable and tragic conclusion.

Peter Clark (Director) brings a contemporary approach to this much loved Shakespearean classic, involving lights, sound, film, music and much more!  An accessible production suitable for young and old, first timers and Shakespearean and those wanting to experience how enjoyable Shakespeare really can be!

Application to Direct in 2019

Limelight Submission 2019
It’s time again to be thinking about our seasons for next year 2019, and we encourage all new, experienced and enthusiastic directors to submit plays and musicals they would like to have produced on the Limelight Stage.
If you are interested in submitting, please supply 2 scripts, plus CD’s if submitting a musical, so that the selection process can get started as soon as possible. Your scripts will be read by our 5 readers who will then meet to discuss a balanced program of plays and musicals for the coming year.
When submitting your scripts, please include a completed submission form which can be found via the link below. If you are submitting for the first time, it would be helpful for you to include a theatre CV of your experience. You can drop off your submission at the theatre either on a Tuesday morning or on one of the production nights. To arrange an alternative, please contact Mike Gibbs on [email protected] for additional information.

President’s Spot – June

Hello everyone,

Another busy month has passed as we gear up for the opening of “A Fairy Tale of Sorts”. I have been busy enjoying creating the wardrobe for this locally written play and have been delighted and amused by the delightful array of crazy characters drawn from both medieval time and Disney characters! It has a pantomime, Monty Python, Benny Hill feel to it in equal parts and cannot fail to entertain.
If you haven’t already booked your tickets, do it now!
We have had a couple of months of upheaval, dust and delays, but our wardrobe extension is now complete! Thanks to the dedicated members who turned up to the recent Busy Bee. Wally Fry, Malcolm Hiscock, Max Walker, John Grimshaw, Doryan Kurtovic, Joyce Gilbert, Patrick McGinn and me! Few though we were, we were able to almost complete the transfer of costumes to their new home. It will be a while before Joyce and Kerry can re-sort and discover all that the wardrobe holds, but I’m sure they’ll make some interesting discoveries along the way as they unearth long forgotten items!
After much consideration, meetings and emails we are delighted to announce that our final season for the year will be “The Envelope Please” created and to be directed by Gillian Binks and Jane Anderson. As the title suggests it is about academy awards – but this time the music and songs. Playing dates have also been changed so check your calendars closer to production time.
See you at the theatre
