From the Acting President – December 2016

Hi Everyone,

What a wonderful year of productions we have experienced at the Limelight theatre!

Locally written one act plays, the sinister “Gaslight” which saw not only the very talented Emma Shaw, but also Andrew Govey in a quite different and challenging role.

This was followed by our first “Old Time Musical Hall” in many years. It was hard to tell whether the cast or the audience were having the most fun with that one! In August the fun and frolic of “Run for your Wife” which proved a very popular and entertaining farce for our audiences. And then James Hough-Neilson brought us “Skylight” late in September. A very thought-provoking play on an amazing set designed by Robert Benson-Parry. And our finale for the year “Blitz” with its cast of thousands, featuring Sue Vincent in the title role. Congratulations to all those who appeared on stage in 2016.

AND—a great big thank you to all of the set constructors, painters, props and costume makers unseen by our audiences, but appreciated by members. Thanks also to the front of house volunteers. My appeal to the whole membership last month found us several new and willing helpers; hopefully more of you will volunteer in the future.

AND—to the committee. This has been a very busy year and committee members have been doing all sorts of things behind the scenes. We have installed a new booking system and, despite a few teething troubles, with the dedication of Nigel Rarp, Carol Binks and Elinor King it is now running smoothly. Nigel has also been busy working on necessary changes to our constitution and strategic plan—rather tedious but very necessary work—thank you Nigel. Andrew Brown again coordinated the reading committee to choose our productions for next year, Jane organised a great garage sale and is currently coordinating the Awards night, Kim and Meg cooked themselves into oblivion at the Bunnings sausage sizzle! Well done to you all!

AND—when you start thanking there’s always a danger that you might miss mentioning something important that members have done for our Club. If your name has been missed—it probably means you are a quiet achiever and there are many of you. So to all members and friends who have supported us in 2016—A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!

Merry Christmas to you all and may you always have love to share, health to spare and friends to care.
Shelley McGinn
