From the Editor – September 2016

Hi everyone—you will note elsewhere in the newsletter that applications for directing productions for next year have met with some problems.

One of the principal problems we face, as a voluntary organisation, is the question of paying performers— musicians in particular.

Many years ago the committee, made the decision that no  performers would be paid.  The problem with this recently has been that prospective directors cannot find musical directors and musicians willing to give their time to play in an orchestra voluntarily.

While we accept the fact that good musicians can, and do, get paid gigs and don’t want to give these up, it leaves us in a dilemma!

I don’t know if anyone has an answer to this problem—I’m just putting it out there for your consideration.

Whatever 2017 brings, we will have music—and a few surprises too!

Want to get involved in a TV Drama Script?

Any members interested in workshopping a TV Drama script?
Local playwright, Dianne Zanetti, is working on a TV drama series script entitled “The Refuge” which she hopes to pitch to television producers in November.
She is looking for experienced performers to read and offer feedback in the development stage of the script.
Although the cast is not yet finalised, it is currently 2 mature males and 4 mature females.
Dianne already has character profiles available to actors who might be interested and is keen to workshop this script as soon as possible.
If you are interested, please contact her by email at [email protected].
Come on, support our local writing talent!

Productions in 2017

Our Reading Committee have had a flood of late entries and will be meeting in a few days to look at the program for 2017.  More details will be announced in November.

Hi Everyone

Firstly, I hope that you all availed yourselves of the delicious sausages that some of our members cooked at Bunnings in Joondalup on Sunday. On behalf of all members I’d like to thank all those that helped, especially Kim Elford and Meg Considine who were not only there all day cooking and serving, but also organised the day. We made about $2,000 on the day which is a great result. Well done everybody!!!

Our new sound system is currently being installed and will be available for our next production so that will be an exciting new addition to our theatre.

We’re now getting to the pointy end as far as submissions for next year are concerned. We’ve not had many, and, although we’ve had some strong proposals, next years program is looking decidedly  shaky so please, if you are thinking of entering something, please get it to Andrew Brown as soon as possible. Remember, the success of our theatre is solely reliant on the productions that we perform. If we have no productions, then we have no theatre.

Finally, Lorretta and I are now heading off on holiday for a few weeks so unfortunately we will miss James’ production. However, having seen the construction of the set and the strong cast and crew involved, I know it’ll be an awesome production. Please support your theatre by buying your tickets soonest.

Best Regards

Mike Gibbs
