From the Editor – July 2016

Hi Theatre Lovers!

I have seldom enjoyed myself as much at the theatre as I did with my involvement in the Old Time Music Hall!
A big thank you to all of those involved and to our audiences. We were delighted that everyone who attended entered into the spirit of the evening and sang with wonderful enthusiasm!

Construction of the set for “Run for your Wife” began as we ‘bumped out’ our lovely setting the Sunday after we closed. HUGE thanks to Carol Keppler for her work on the fabulous painting. It’s always sad for a cast to see their tempo- rary ‘home’ being collapsed, but it is exciting in equal measure for the next production who are always looking forward to getting their rehearsal on to the stage. I have only seen a little of what this delightful farce has to offer, but it already promises great fun and a lot of laughs for our audience.

See you at the theatre!

MikeGibbsHi Everyone,

I’m really pleased to announce that we’ve now launched our new, improved contemporary website at www.limelighttheatre.com.au. Please have a look at it and let us know what you think!! I think it’s bright, fun and will provide a fresh new online presence for our theatre. I’d like to thank all those involved in putting it together, particularly Adrian Price who did all the ‘techo’ stuff together with Nigel Rarp who provided lots of help and support. If you want to place anything on social media, whether it be on the website or Facebook, please contact anyone on the committee who can arrange to have the information published.

Nigel’s also been working hard with a company called Patronbase and also the Commonwealth Bank to get our new, improved online booking system in place. This should be available in the next few days so keep a lookout on the website.

Another great piece of news we’ve received in June is that we’ve been awarded a grant of $27,000 by Lotterywest to upgrade our sound system. In my opinion, sound has always been our Achilles heel and so it’ll be great to be involved in a production and not be continually worried that the sound system will let us down. I’d really like to give thanks to Patrick and Shelley McGinn for all their hard work in putting the submission to Lotterywest together.

Moving forward now, and I know that Sue Vincent and her cast and crew are already working hard to bring us our next production, Run for Your Wife, which I’m sure will be very popular. Please book your seats early!!!

Hi Theatre Lovers!

Just a short note from me this month, mostly to thank all of the lovely members who have contributed to making our Old Time Music Hall such a wonderful experience! It really has been a collaborative effort, and although I cannot mention everyone who has contributed, I’d like to make special mention of Lyn Brown, fabulous musical director; Aleisha Archer in her debut role as choreographer; Mike Gibbs, efficient as ever in the role of Stage Manager; Dave Browning for set construction and Lorretta Gibbs who sewed on so many buttons to make our Pearly Kings and Queens positively regal! See you at the Old Time Music Hall!!

MikeGibbsHi Everyone,

The committee have been very busy this month, spending our hard earned money but with a view to very much improving the community’s view of our theatre, especially its online presence.

We have commissioned a brand new website to replace our existing site
which has become quite old and stale. The new one will be vibrant and
engaging, containing all the information you could possibly need to know
about our theatre, and regularly updated with news and forthcoming events.
It will also enable us to contact and maintain our membership information in a secure manner and enable members to access their newsletter whenever they wish without their inbox being ‘spammed’.

Even more importantly, and seamlessly linking into the new website, we have identified a new, improved, reliable online booking system which will be available for our next production. I would like to thank Nigel, Elinor, Jane and Carol, our booking officer, for all the hard work they’ve done in identifying a new system which will hopefully take some of the load off Carol and help our customers have a satisfying experience when interacting online with the theatre.

We’ve also bought some second hand lights from WAAPA courtesy of Jacob our lighting manager at a VERY reasonable cost and we’ve also invested in some new personal microphones for our current production. So all in all a very busy month, but a very productive one as well.

On another note, the reading committee is now primed and eagerly awaiting your submissions. Remember, we can only assess whatever is submitted and, as the clock is ticking on the closing date for submissions, please get them to us for consideration as quickly as possible.

Finally, please get your tickets for the Old Time Music Hall. We’ve all enjoyed putting the production together and Shelley’s worked her socks off to get the show to a very high standard so please come along and see the show. You won’t be disappointed.

Calling All Prospective Directors! (Again!)

SweatBookIt’s time again to be thinking about our seasons for next year—2017, and we encourage all new, experienced and enthusiastic directors to submit plays and musicals they would like to have produced on the Limelight Stage.

If you are interested in submitting, please supply 2 scripts, plus CD’s if submitting a musi- cal, so that the selection process can get started as soon as possible. Your scripts will be read by our 5 reading committee members who will then meet to discuss a balanced program of plays and musicals for the coming year.

When submitting your scripts, please also include an outline of how you envisage the staging of your production—type of set, special requirements, etc. But most particularly your ‘vision’ for the production. This will give our reading committee a better understanding of your play or musical. If you are submitting for the first time, it would be helpful for you to include a theatre CV of your experience.

Andrew Brown will be coordinating the reading committee and will be happy to accept your submissions ASAP. Submissions should be received by the end of July. You can contact Andrew to arrange drop off of scripts at the theatre by contacting him through the form on this page.
