From the Editor – May 2016

ShelleyYou know the saying—”if you want something done ask a busy person” well, this busy person has taken on too much (as usual!) .Not content with devising and directing the Old Time Music Hall, I decided to do the wardrobe as well.

I love to sew and create interesting scenes on stage. However, I am snowed under and would really like some help—ASAP. So, if you have any sewing skill and some time, I’d really appreciate your help.

We’re rehearsing three times a week—Wednesday and Thursday evenings, plus Sunday afternoon (except for Mother’s Day) , but I’m home sewing (or writing newsletters!) during the day. So just give me a call on 0408 098 349 or 9405 2875 if you can spare and hour or two.

And while I’m appealing for help—the stage setting has been constructed, thanks to Dave Browning, but we need to paint it! If you’d like to get involved in this capacity, give me a call and I’ll let you know when to come along.
So for all of you who say, “You only have to ask”, I’m asking and thanking you in advance for your support !

One Act Plays

“Don’t shoot the Messenger” – written and directed by Bob Charteris

This is a light-hearted tribute to the golden days of print journalism and the action of the play opens on the final day of a physical newspaper production before the Daily Messenger switch- es to an online edition only.

Bob has performed on the Limelight stage several times and at Stirling Players and has written quite a few plays.

“The Broken Slipper” – written by Yvette Wall and directed by Alida Chaney

The world of Fairytales is in an uproar, the characters are all rebelling and The Fairytale Tribu- nal are rushed off their feet!
The defendant is Cinderella, who has left her story and broken the rules.

Little Red Riding Hood’s Grandma heads the tribunal, the Wicked Witch from Hansel and Gretel is second in charge and Snow White is the Secretary and Administrator!

Not just a fractured fairytale, it’s positively smashed to smithereens! Not everyone will live happily ever after….or will they?

A very cleverly written play which helps us examine our own lives and what constitutes happiness. This one act play won six awards at Dramafest 2014 including Best New Writing, Best Direction and Best Overall Production

Make sure you don’t miss out on this season as it only plays 4 nights in February—12th, 13th, 19th & 20th.

From The President – May 2016

Hi Everyone,

This month saw the first meeting of the new committee and what a great meeting it was!! Plenty to talk about and lots of new ideas which hopefully we can talk to you about at a later date.

One of the things that came up was next year’s program (yes – we need to start thinking about that now!!) and the submissions. I’m sure that elsewhere in this newsletter will be information about how to apply, but all I will say is please get submissions in as early as you can. Our program for next year can only be as good as the quality of submissions we receive, so prospective directors – get your thinking caps on!!

On Sunday 12th June we’ll be holding the sausage sizzle at Bunnings, Joondalup to raise some much needed funds. Please give either Meg Considine or Kim Elford a call if you can help out. If you can’t help on the stall, then please get to Bunnings Joondalup on the day and buy a sausage or two!!!

The next show up is the “Old Time Music Hall”, directed by Shelley and Stage Managed by yours truly. It’s a while since I’ve been involved in a production so it’s great to be back in the thick of things. Rehearsals are going well and there’s fun for young and old so get your tickets quickly!!!

All the best

Mike Gibbs
